It's a Rainy Day in Canada

Jane Reporting for 18th September

It's just barely gone 2pm (check in time) and we're holed up in our motel in Calgary.  The weather today (18th September) has been most unsuitable for sight-seeing - ask the three from our party who got out in the rain and 37 degrees F (3 degrees C) at Lake Louise to 'have a look'.

Up in the middle, there: 37 degrees

As far as I could tell (being the one who refused to leave the car) what they got was incipient frostbite.  Lyn even insisted on putting her nose on me when she got back in the car, just to show me how cold she was! :o)

Are we having fun yet?

At the Lake Louise village we found a bakery selling meat pies which are our absolute travel staple at home so we had a morning tea snack of meat pies and hot drinks.  (The meat pies seemed a little odd to us as they were made with short pastry instead of flaky, but they were close enough for Gary and I.)

Before we got to Lake Louise we pulled into a rest area near Field and  managed to take this photo:

A train near Field

The focus is not all it could be as it was taken in a rush through a rainy window but I like it as it has that 'travel poster' look about it. Canada and trains; they seem to go together.

We did a drive-by visit to Banff.  Still raining, still cold.  By then all four people in the party felt that staying in the car was the best idea.

Lyn and Gary have just braved the rain to grab some hot chips and fruit pies from McDonalds for afternoon tea.  Luckily there is a restaurant next door so we aren't going to have to go far for our dinner.

I hope to get the older blog posts up-to-date with this unexpected afternoon off.
