Rye Harbour

A very big day in book location terms with both myself and, later, Beth and Marianne going for walks around Rye Harbour before breakfast.  We might possibly have forgone those if we'd realised how much walking would be in our future!

While I went down to the river to check the water level (still amazed by this tidal river business), down to the shore along the nature reserve walk, and finally around the martello tower, Beth and Marianne did the martello tower and went through the village in the other direction to visit the church where (fictional) Tamzin's and (real) Monica Edwards' father(s) was the vicar.

After a hearty breakfast and over-breakfast chat with Alison and Russell (also guests at the Old Vicarage) about Georgette Heyer and our book pilgrimage in general we headed off for Rye.

Marianne was armed  with a map of the central, historic part of the town which was the location for some of the books by Malcolm Saville.  While Beth and Marianne did a Malcolm Saville tour (at speed) Gary and I sauntered here and there taking photos of some lovely old buildings and the church on the hill.  Much to my continuing amazement the river was now full and making a lovely silver path out toward the coast.
