Onboard / Croatia [River Cruise: Day 9]

Onboard

Gary getting ready for his day ashore
I chose to spend the day onboard while Gary was off on the tour around Croatia.  While the tour was away the boat relocated from Vukovar to Batina (both in Croatia) so we zoomed along the Danube, zigging and zagging along in the wake of our friend the River Princess.

Being overtaken by the River Princess
It was a lovely day onboard, though quiet with most of the 111 passengers on the tour.  The six stay-at-homes gathered for lunch in the lounge while the crew were flat out doing some serious cleaning from one end of the boat to the other.  At lunch I met Bill and Joan (USA) and Marianne (whom I realised that I had already met as one half of Reg-and-Marianne).  During our chat I discovered that Marianne has published a couple of children's books and a cosy mystery (among other things) and when the exceedingly intermittent internet co-operated I was able to buy myself a copy of the mystery for the Kindle.

With the place almost deserted I had the opportunity to photograph the chairs.  Apart from the desk chair all of the chairs onboard are very comfortable and nearly all nice to look at.  Many are quite square and remind me of Art Deco styles.

Croatia

Even from the Danube we have been able to see signs of the 'homeland war' that raged in Croatia in the early 1990s with huge holes in buildings all the way along the riverside.

Organ concert at Osijek
Gary's tour covered Vukovar and Osijek, including the Roman Catholic church and organ concert.

Onboard

Or almost onboard. Either the folk on the tour were running early or we on the Vista were running late as Gary was already on the dock when the boat arrived and was able to get a good photo of us pulling in to port.

The Avalon Vista arriving to pick up those on the tour
At dinner we were much amused by Gary's smiley-faced dessert.
